New corrector magnet in place in Booster tunnel

The Booster Corrector Package Upgrade is part of the Proton Plan Project. It is one of the major upgrades that Booster needs to undergo in order to move toward the path of improved Booster efficiency necessary for the higher beam intensities required by the Neutrino program in the years to come.

The new Booster Corrector Package  will be capable of providing a full orbit, tune, coupling and chromaticity correction up to the extraction energy of 8GeV. The magnet is a 12-pole iron dominated magnet. Each new corrector includes: Horizontal and Vertical dipole, Normal and Skew quadrupole, Normal and Skew sextupole. Each of the magnets will be individually controlled using operator programmed current ramps designed specifically for each type of Booster acceleration cycle.

Twelve correctors were installed during shutdown 2007. The remaining correctors are scheduled to be installed during the next lab wide shutdown in 2008.
The design, fabrication and installation of this corrector package was the hard work of many dedicated people from the Accelerator, Particle Physics and Technical Divisions.
