We are working on a roadmap towards the goal of a 2 MW upgrade of the Main
Injector. Each step will help improve the MI performance in its present (Run 2) and near
future (NuMI) operations. The 2 MW goal will be reached in the Proton Driver era. These
steps include, but are not limited to:
- large aperture quadrupoles (WQB)
- fast ramp
- RF upgrade to two power amplifiers per cavity
- new RF system
- collimators
- gamma-t jump system
- large aperture kickers
- replacement of the reused Main Ring quads
- improved beam abort
- cooling upgrade
