The EPICURE system includes instrumentation to monitor status of the systems supplying cooling water to magnets and power supplies. The ``LCW and RAW Program,'' authored by Michael A. Oslin, offers an easy way to obtain this status information. Through a series of pulldown menus, the user chooses which water system to look at.

Using the Program

Choose the item ``LCW and Raw Program'' from the OPS account menu, or run the program USR$DISKS:[OPS.PROGRAMS]WATER.EXE on the DISNEY cluster.

The program uses the standard ESM interface, so a title and menu bar appear at the top of the screen. Press the DO key to make the menu-bar choices available. Use the arrow keys to move between choices. Make a choice by pressing the RETURN key.

If a pulldown menu appears, the arrow keys and RETURN key will serve to choose further options.

The menu-bar options available are:

LCW

Provides a menu with choices PROTON, NEUTRINO, MESON, and EXIT MENU. Choosing an area produces a new menu listing the available LCW systems in that area.

RAW

Provides a menu with choices PROTON, NEUTRINO, MESON, and EXIT MENU. Choosing an area produces a new menu listing the available RAW systems in that area.

Print

Prints a hardcopy of the current screen display. Choosing this provides a menu of printer queues.

Exit

Exit the program. Another way to exit is by typing Ctrl-Z while the cursor is not in a menu.

Reading the Display

Figure 1 shows a typical display produced by this program-- in this case, the PS1 LCW system status. Two columns labeled ``SYSTEM SIGNALS'' give the names of various parameters. Each is followed by a status-bit indication in the column labeled ``STATUS.'' Analog parameters of the system, such as temperatures and pressures, appear in the lower right-hand part of the screen.

Nonstandard Menu Behavior

The program does not respond properly to a Ctrl-Z. If a vertical pulldown menu is open (such as the ones under LCW or RAW on the menu bar) and the user types Ctrl-Z, the cursor will return to the work area. Sadly, the pulldown menu will not be cleaned up properly, and will remain on the screen, obscuring any text in the work area ``under'' the menu.

Fortunately, there is a way to repair this annoying problem. Hit the DO key again. Choose either RAW or LCW with the arrow keys and RETURN key. A new pulldown menu will appear. Now press the DO key. All pulldown menus, including the errant ``forgotten'' menu, will disappear. The cursor will be in the horizontal main menu bar. At this point a Ctrl-Z will return the cursor happily to the work area.
